Harry's Treats Dog Bakery

Bringing PCI DSS compliance to heel.

You just never know where a light-hearted gift from a friend may lead

Paul Marsden’s life was changed by a dog treat recipe book he was given one Christmas. With time on his hands after the sandwich chain he worked for ceased trading, Paul thought he might as well try doing something different and began making his own treats. When Harry, his Labrador, enthusiastically wolfed them down, Paul was inspired to make more – selling them at various farmers markets, pet shows and other events.

Eventually, he opened a shop and Harry's Treats Dog Bakery in Edinburgh’s Portobello district has now become the go-to location for canines with discerning palates.

Today, the broad range of offerings available from Harry’s includes dog cupcakes, dog muffins and even dog beer. There are no artificial colorings or preservatives, and the hound delicacies are made from high-quality, human-grade ingredients.

PCI DSS requirements

Paul has used a Worldpay mobile Move/5000 terminal since he first started selling at farmers markets. Like all merchants who deal with debit and credit cards, though, Paul must demonstrate he’s doing the right things to protect his customers’ card details and private data by complying with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

“Obviously, I didn’t know anything about PCI DSS when I started, and it was a bit overwhelming, truthfully, to discover just how many sheets were involved in the SAQ, the self-assessment questionnaire, you have to complete,” he notes. “I absolutely know why it’s important, but it just felt like yet another mass of red tape for me to have to deal with on top of everything else, and I have enough to do already.”

SaferPayments Managed

To help alleviate the load, Paul signed up for Worldpay’s SaferPayments Managed service.

“It’s great,” he says. “Worldpay rings me up when the SAQ is due and asks a few questions to check whether my business has changed since the last questionnaire. They record any necessary changes, and I get the reassurance of knowing that I’m complying with the regulations and, more importantly, that I’m doing the right things to protect my customers.”

The SaferPayments Managed service also includes security tools, such as virus and vulnerability scans. These alert merchants when a piece of software needs updating and helps ensure the most current and secure versions of software are installed. The Worldpay SaferPayments Managed team can monitor for threats remotely and help fix things if they detect any problems.

Worldpay Dashboard

SaferPayments Managed is just one of the reasons why Paul has never regretted choosing Worldpay as his payments partner. Another is the Worldpay Dashboard.

The Worldpay Dashboard provides Paul with numerous insights that allow him to run his business more efficiently by providing him with vital information from card sales, settlements, invoices and more. According to Paul, "The Worldpay Dashboard is just amazing for accessing information about our account."

Worldpay people make all the difference

But, besides all the great payments solutions he has that help him efficiently manage his shop, it’s the people of Worldpay Paul appreciates more than anything. “The level of service is really, really good," he says.
