Saltrock Surfwear Switches to Worldpay for Better Cash Flow and Reduced Fees
In 1988, two surf-loving brothers set out to change outdoor apparel in the U.K., and Saltrock Surfwear Limited was born. Since then, Saltrock has grown to 62 retail stores across the U.K., offering a wide range of coastal-inspired clothing to adventurous locals, active families and enthusiastic tourists who embrace an outdoor lifestyle.

Enter Worldpay
Martin Williamson-Cary, Saltrock Surfwear’s head of finance, explained that the company was previously a client of a Worldpay rival for many years. But due to experiencing ongoing poor customer service and high fees, they had enough. Following an extensive search, Saltrock turned to Worldpay in September 2022.
“We sought a good partnership with a new payments provider – one that understood our business and would also be easily contactable for everything from small queries to big issues,” says Martin. “We were also looking to improve the existing three-day payment schedule, reduce our fees and have one contact for support -- plus work with an entity with a local presence. We found all what we were looking for ─ and more ─ in our changeover to Worldpay.”
Seamless implementation
Martin explains how quickly Worldpay set up Saltrock’s payment system. “The required store analysis was completed promptly and efficiently by Worldpay,” he says, “and the switchover to new MIDs was done over a two-day period.”
SaferPayments eases PCI DSS compliance process
Saltrock Surfwear also uses Worldpay’s SaferPayments program for help with the mandated Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). The PCI DSS is a set of global industry security requirements that provide a baseline of technical and operational standards designed to ensure all organizations that accept, process, store or transmit credit card information ─ regardless of size or processing volume ─ maintain a secure environment and protect all payment data.
SaferPayments includes access to Worldpay’s specific, web-based SaferPayments portal, telephone, email and chat support six days a week, periodic email reminders about maintaining compliance, pre-population of up to 90% of a customer’s specific PCI DSS self-assessment questionnaire (SAQ) ─ if using certain Worldpay products ─ and more.
Improved cash flow and reduced fees
Martin also cites improved cash flow as another benefit of Saltrock’s partnership with WorldPay.
"We went from three days with our former provider to next-day payments with Worldpay. We also almost halved our fees and now have a responsive, single point-of-contact who we can definitely rely on,” he recaps.
